CHAPTER 6: FALSELY SIMULATED SAFETY SUMMARY
THE WHO
- Kaede Akamatsu, Chiaki Nanami, Tenko Chabashira, Makoto Naegi, Leon Kuwata, and Yuta Asahina are the six remaining students.
- Chisa Yukizome, Koichi Kizakura, and Mahiru Koizumi find the survivors.
- The Steering Committee is the Mastermind.THE WHAT
- The truth behind the killing game they're participating in is revealed.
- The truth behind their fellow classmates is revealed.
- The survivors escape the killing game.THE DETAILS
- Shortly following Hiyoko's trial, the survivors struggle to keep it together.
- Monokuma summons all of them to the gym to try and deliver another motive, but he's shot down emphatically by the survivors. They tell him that they refuse to be delivered another motive, so Monokuma asks what they think is an equivalent exchange.
- Kaede says that she wants one more trial to find their answers regarding the killing game. She offers her life as the bargaining chip, to which everyone else tells her she's insane for suggesting such a deal. Monokuma accepts.
- After a confusing investigation, the survivors proceed to the trial grounds and face off against Monokuma one last time.
- Throughout the course of the trial, the survivors learn that the true Mastrmind behind their kidnapping and the killing game is the Steering Committee, who only kidnapped everyone to test their hypothetical question "What would happen if you locked a group of Ultimates in an inescapable location and told them the only way to escape is to kill each other?" The Steering Committee refers to this as Project Hypotheticals.
- They also learn that, due to the nature of Project Hypotheticals, the Steering Committee couldn't just have them kill each other, or else they would never be able to run multiple trials. This leads to the discovery that all of them have been placed in a simulation in Hope's Peak's basement.
- They demand answers as to why the Steering Committee has been so adamantly after Kaede the entire time, so the Steering Committee tells them that they are simultaneously studying Kaede, and her sister Momiji to an extent, to see if she is a viable subject for an experiment similar to what they had done to Hajime and Izuru. Since Kaede made it to the final trial and otherwise proved herself, they state that they will be removing her for surgery imminently.
- Before this can happen, Chisa, Koichi, and Mahiru break into the basement to stop them. Chisa handles the Steering Committee and takes over communicating with the survivors, telling them that everything will be okay now.
- Eventually, Koichi finds a way to shut down the simulation, so they initiate the shutdown and tell the survivors they'll be waiting for them on the outside.
- The survivors celebrate and hold each other close as the simulation shuts down.
- Kaede regains some consciousness in the real world after the simulation has shut down, having a short, stilted conversation with Chisa.
- The chapter ends with Kaede falling unconscious again, free and safe.
